This Easter Weekend we decided to go to Gold Reef City Theme Park. Not only is Gold Reef CIty Theme Park the largest of its kind in South Africa, but it was also voted one of Johannesburg’s most loved and coolest entertainment destinations too. It has some of South Africa’s fastest, biggest, most twisting and turning thrill rides. And that is so so true, we had so much fun there and the rides, my kids and ourselves enjoyed it so much. This outing was an amazing day out with family and friends.
Located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971, the park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand, the buildings on the park are designed to mimic the same period.
Take your pick from 16 thrilling rides, 7 Family rides, 21 dedicated kids rides, Jump City Trampoline Park, the only authentic underground mine tour in Johannesburg, 12 dining options, multiple Retail stores, plus 15 other attractions all set against a gold rush era backdrop.
We even searched for a ‘Golden Egg” for the Easter Hunt and we got two golden eggs. The price was 1x Easter Egg Box and the other one was a “I Scream voucher value for R120.”
The mine goes down 57 levels or 3 500 metres, and over its 90- year lifespan produced some 1.4 million kilograms of gold, blasted out of the ground by 30 000 miners.
